[A] Whitehaven man has been jailed for 200 days for breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.
Lawrence Wilson, aged 30, of no fixed address, was sentenced on 15th June at West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.
On Sunday 22nd April, Wilson was caught on CCTV stealing a wireless speaker, worth £25, from Wilko in Whitehaven. He then stole two razors the following day from the same store.
On 2nd May police sighted Wilson walking across Lowther Street which is location he was prohibited from entering and was subsequently arrested.
Wilson was handed the order in November 2016 following persistent shoplifting.
Wilson was prohibited from:
- Not to enter any retail premises or properties that are members of the Carlisle, Workington and Whitehaven Shopwatch Scheme.
- Not to enter any Tesco supermarkets in Carlisle, Workington and Whitehaven.
- Not to enter any Morrisons supermarkets in Workington and Whitehaven.
- Not to enter the boundaries of Derwent Howe Industrial Estate between Derwent Drive / Bessemer Way and Havelock Road, Workington.
- Not to enter the town centre of Whitehaven except to attend a pre-arranged appointment arranged via the Probation Service.
- Not to enter the town centre of Workington.
Copeland Police Sergeant David Macdonald said: “Wilson is a prolific offender and we are glad that he has been identified once again and taken off the streets. He will continue to be closely monitored on his release.
“Criminal Behaviour Orders allow us to keep targeting such offenders and are a valuable tool in targeting shoplifters and thieves.
“This sentencing follows ongoing proactive work targeting such offences in Whitehaven. Community officers will continue to patrol hot-spot areas to deter criminals and disrupt their activities.
