[A] MAN who knocked a Kendal pub reveller unconscious with a single punch has been spared an immediate jail term.
Warren Lee Chorley, 32, reacted violently when a group of badly-behaving men were ejected from the town centre George and Dragon.
Chorley, who had been smoking and “minding his own business” outside, lashed out when a non-aggressive group member, Trevor O’Neill, stepped towards female staff who were trying to keep the peace.
Chorley punched Mr O’Neill once, knocking him unconscious and leaving him prone on the pavement with a fractured eye socket.
After pleading guilty to causing his victim grievous bodily harm, Chorley had a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years at Carlisle Crown Court. He must also complete rehabilitation and 100 hours’ unpaid work.
Recorder Michael Michael Murray heard Chorley, of Kentgate Place, Kendal, had reacted in response to concerns for two female members of pub staff.
“That’s what’s hanging over you for the next two years,” said Recorder Murray of the suspended sentence. “Don’t regard this as a let-off, Mr Chorley.”
