[V]irgin Trains is offering a unique insight into the railway in Cumbria with its first railway day at Carlisle station on Saturday 23rd June.
Bringing together industry partners, businesses and community groups, the event is designed to celebrate the railway and raise money for Virgin Trains’ charity partner, Rethink Mental Illness, and Carlisle Eden Mind.
Visitors to the station will get insight into the lines that connect into Carlisle through drone footage, model railway displays, memorabilia, artwork, entertainment, and pop-up stands from local attractions. There will also be the chance to view footage taken from a Pendolino cab on a journey from London to Glasgow and tasters from the on-board shop.
Virgin Trains will be hosting station announcement and train dispatch workshops to give children the opportunity to announce trains and dispatch a locomotive. This is the first time Virgin Trains has held a railway day and follows recent investment in the station, including the work to replace the roof and refurbishment of the old station buffet into the 301 Miles from London Pub.
Mark Green, Station Manager at Virgin Trains on the west coast, said: “We’re really excited to be hosting our first railway day at Carlisle to celebrate the railway and its importance to this city and the wider region of Cumbria. We have been proud to serve Carlisle for over 20 years and we’re pleased to be working in partnership with the industry, businesses, and the community to champion what the region has to offer and how it can be reached by train, whilst raising money for a great cause. We look forward to welcoming people to the station for what we’re sure will be a great day!”
Carlisle Railway Day will take place at Carlisle station on Saturday 23rd June from 10am – 4pm. For more information or to book onto a workshop, visit the Team Leader’s Office on Platform 4.
