[A] SON who kicked his mum and “shattered” a bone in her leg has been jailed for more than two years.
Carlisle Crown Court heard how Dylan Messenger-Taylor had, before the attack, issued threats of violence to Heather Messenger.
But on March 3, 20-year-old Messenger-Taylor did attack his mother at her Gosforth home when he saw her packing a bag to leave. He pushed her to the floor against a washing machine and, as she lay defenceless, delivered a powerful backward kick with a bare foot.
This was said to have “shattered” the femur of “tiny and vulnerable” Mrs Messenger, who lay in pain at her home for around 24 hours before police were called. She later underwent a four-hour operation to fit a plate and screws which required almost two dozen stitches, left her with a foot-long scar, and the court, heard, she still needed a Zimmer frame to move around.
Messenger-Taylor admitted causing her grievous bodily harm. He was described as being “very sorry indeed” for a “reckless” crime which his mother later stated had “ripped” the family apart.
Judge James Adkin handed Messenger-Taylor, of no fixed address, a 26-month custodial sentence and banned him, indefinitely, from contacting his mother in any way.
