[A]n open event will be taking place on Thursday 5 July for anyone who is interested in the future of Appleby’s Moot Hall.
The Moot Hall is being looked at as part of a 5-year Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) programme, a partnership between Eden District Council, Appleby Town Council and Historic England, covering a number of projects across Appleby.
The HAZ programme has identified the Moot Hall as being at risk due to the amount of repair and renovation works required, and is considering how this work could be achieved. Most funding bodies will not fund ‘like for like’ repairs so work is required to develop an option capable of attracting funding.
An options appraisal is currently being undertaken by Crosby Grainger Architects, working closely with Appleby Town Council to consider how they could manage and use the property going forward.
Following a presentation of the initial options to town councillors, wider comments are being sought at an open event for residents and businesses. The options will be on display in both the library and the Moot Hall between 3-7pm on Thursday 5 July 2018.
Adrian Banford, Appleby Heritage Action Zone Programme Officer said; ‘ We look forward to hearing views on the proposals. Not all the options may be realistic, but potential funders will want to see that the initial consultation covers a wide number of options. There may also be the possibility of a ‘mix and match’ from the current options to create an alternative option not already on the table.’
Following a presentation of the initial options to town councillors, wider comments are being sought at an open event for residents and businesses at the Moot Hall on Thursday 5 July 2018 from 3-7pm. The options will then be on display in Appleby Library during opening hours from 6-13 July 2018.
