[T]ebay Services is home to three families of swallows at Tebay Southbound on the M6, Cumbria, and this image taken by John France, Environmental Manager for the Westmorland Family artfully captures 4 chicks being fed by Mrs Swallow.
Tebay South opened in June 1993 and flocks of Swallows have been nesting comfortably at the services every year since 1994. Each spring, Swallows migrate to the UK from the south of the Sahara Desert to breed.
The services makes a perfect nesting place for the swallows due to its limestone exterior along with overhanging pelmets creating the ideal environment for the Swallows year on year.
Nearby natural surrounding areas provide a selection of flies and insects for the swallows to feed their young. With roaming fields and water courses neighbouring the services, the swallows will never be short of something to eat at Tebay Services.
