Police appeal for witnesses after Kirkby Stephen shop raid

Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted burglary in Kirkby Stephen where an attempt was made to steal an ATM machine.

The incident occurred at approximately 2.45am on Friday 15th June at the McColl’s store on Market Street.

Four males dressed in black clothing forced entry to the store and used cargo straps attached to a stolen (new shape) white Ford Transit van fitted with roof bars, to remove the ATM from its fixed base.

The offenders made off from the location up South Road, without the ATM after being disturbed.

Considerable damage was caused to the shop.

The van used in the incident was stolen from outside an address in Brough prior to the incident in Kirby Stephen. It has subsequently been recovered by officers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC1066 Ross on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
