Firefighters tackle Workington grass fires

At 2:47pm today, Friday 29 June crews from Workington and Maryport were called to reports of a grass fire at Dunmail retail park in Workington.

The fire involved approximately 30 square metres of grass which was well alight.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The team used two hose reel jets and two beaters to tackle the fire and were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.”

At 4:19pm today firefighters were also called to a report of a fire on a cycle track in Mitchell Avenue, Northside, Workington.

On arrival crews discovered around 20 square metres of grassland well alight.

Firefighters used water and two beaters to extinguish the fire.
