[P]upils at Langwathby C of E school and scores of Cumbrian Artists are busy preparing for the school’s annual Art Mart Exhibition which will take place next weekend. Langwathby School is set to be transformed into a gallery featuring over 300 pieces of original Cumbrian art.
The exhibition features original sketches and paintings , ceramics and textiles all displayed professionally in a series of exhibition rooms. The special exhibition room for 2018 will celebrate woodland and wood. A selection of work from the school’s pupils will also feature. A parent run tea shop serves up home made cakes & scones.
Rosemary Koch-Osborne, a member of both Gamblesby and Penrith Art Club who exhibits work each year said ‘Langwathby Schools ‘pop up’ exhibition is a really wonderful and unique event in the local art calendar. As an amateur artist it’s great to exhibit alongside so many other Cumbrian artists and alongside the work of the school’s children. I especially look forward to seeing what exciting art projects the children have been working on’.
New Headteacher Mrs Sally Hay said ‘I attended last year’s Art Mart and was blown away by the quality scale and size of the exhibition. Langwathby School puts a great deal of emphasis on nurturing creativity. Throughout the year we invite artists in to do ‘workshops’ with our children. The wonderful ceramics, woodwork and artwork created will be on show next weekend complimenting the main Cumbrian art exhibition’
Art Mart was set up to raise money for the school’s arts and creativity fund and last year raised £4000. Debra Turnbull one of the events key organisers said ‘We are really proud of this special annual event, a lot of people work very hard to bring it together Whether you are an art enthusiast looking for a master piece or just enjoy a lovely cup of tea and home baked cake we hope you can come along’
Langwathby Schools Art Mart will take place next Saturday 14th July (10 am-5pm) and Sunday 15th July (10am-4pm). Admission £2.
