Man arrested after serious assault in Whitehaven

POLICE have arrested a man from Cleator Moor following the report of an assault.

The incident occurred yesterday (7th July), around 8pm on Lowther Street, Whitehaven.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The victim, a 24-year-old local man remains in a serious, but stable condition in Newcastle hospital.

“A 25-year-old from Cleator Moor, has been arrested on suspicion of GBH Assault. He remains in police custody.

“Investigations are ongoing and a police cordon is in place in the area whilst enquires are carried out.”
