[A] MAN awaiting sentence for kidnapping and raping a woman in Carlisle has now also admitted a string of indecent image crimes.
Luke Thompson, 24, went on trial at the city’s crown court earlier this year.
Despite his denials, Thompson was convicted of raping and kidnapping a woman in Carlisle. He was cleared of two further rape allegations and one alleged sexual assault; and further acquitted of allegedly using controlling and coercive behaviour towards a second woman.
Thompson, now of no fixed address but previously of Cant Crescent, Carlisle, was remanded in custody while he awaited sentence.
But he was brought back to the crown court this week. And, during a brief hearing, he admitted making 836 indecent photographs of children – 215 of which were still and moving images classed in category A, the most serious. He further admitted the possession of 52 extreme pornographic images, and possessing 203 prohibited images of children.
Thompson remains in custody and is due to be sentenced at the crown court for all of his offending on September 8. Recorder Julie Clemitson told him: “You already understand you must prepare for what must inevitably be a substantial custodial sentence.”
