[R]esearch students from the Royal College of Art are spending a week in Cumbria as guests of the University of Cumbria’s Institute of the Arts.
Based at the Brampton Road campus, students are working on a variety of projects as well as hearing from guest speakers and visiting venues across Cumbria.
During their stay the group travelled to Dove Cottage, visited Grizedale Arts as well as the university’s Ambleside campus.
Director of the Institute of the Arts Roddy Hunter led the tour which included a viewing of the Millet drawings on the Ambleside campus: “This is such an incredible asset especially the literary and cultural heritage; who wouldn’t want to come and study here? We’re working with our partners so there’s so much we can offer in terms of arts and culture that’s of international quality.”
Artist and academic Professor Rebecca Fortnum, professor of fine art at the Royal College of Art, said she hoped the students would be inspired by the visit.
“They come with specific tasks – to write or make a series of work – so each has individual goals. It’s also a chance for students to spend time away from London and make some art in the studios here at Cumbria.”
