[A] MARYPORT man accused of raping one girl and sexually assaulting another has denied all of the allegations he faces.
Richard John Winn, 56, is on trial at Carlisle Crown Court. He has pleaded not guilty to a total of 11 charges which allege both the historic and repeated rape of one pre-teen girl and multiple sexual assaults of another.
A jury has listened to allegations made by both females – now adults – in police interviews.
But when he was quizzed, Winn, of Derwent Avenue, Maryport, responded to an officer: “I haven’t done anything.”
At the crown court today (WED), he went into the witness box and gave evidence.
“You have heard, Mr Winn, what one girl said,” stated his barrister, Brendan Burke, “that you raped her time and time again.”
“Definitely not,” Winn replied.
“You have heard what (the other girl) said,” Mr Burke continued, “that you were sexually assaulting her.”
Winn said: “Definitely not.”
Asked whether he had “blackmailed” one female, as she had alleged, Winn insisted: “Not right.”
The trial continues.
