[A] DRUNKEN thug has been jailed for carrying out a vicious revenge attack which occurred inside his victim’s Workington flat.
Darren John Curwen, 27, had been sentenced by magistrates on May 18 for assaulting pal and former work colleague Michael McLaughlin and damaging his property during an incident in April. But just hours after the hearing – having called Mr McLaughlin a “snitch” on social media – Curwen visited his flat and launched what Carlisle Crown Court heard today was a “nasty, prolonged and serious” attack.
Despite Mr McLaughlin’s pleas for mercy, “extremely drunk” Curwen repeatedly punched him all over his body. Curwen also hurled a television, table and a model Dalek, all of which hit bloodied Mr McLaughlin, whose serious injuries included a fractured eye socket and finger.
Curwen, of Cromwell Crescent, High Harrington, admitted grievous bodily harm with intent, taking revenge and causing criminal damage to items during an attack seen through a window by a shocked neighbour.
He was handed five-year prison sentence today (MON) by Recorder Mark Ainsworth, and also banned from contacting his victim indefinitely.
“It is clear as well as physical injury you caused him a great deal of distress,” Recorder Ainsworth told Curwen.
