[P]enrith Mountain Rescue Team were contacted by police on 12 July to assist a 70-year-old man who had slipped and injured his lower leg.
The team was mobilised and because of the potentially long carry out Kirkby Stephen MRT was asked to assist.
The casualty was located near to Nan Bield Pass near Mardale Head, Haweswater.
A spokesman for Penrith MRT said: “On arrival at the casualty site, team members were delighted to find Alan Hinkes (MREW ambassador) keeping the casualty company and in good spirits.
“Members of the team splinted the casualties leg, transferred him to a stretcher and started to lower him off the hillside. Before too long Kirkby Stephen MRT arrived and helped us with the long carry out.
“The casualty was transported to Penrith hospital to be transferred on to Carlisle later. 12 members of Penrith MRT were involved for 6 hours.”
