[P]olice received a report of a male using fraudulent £50 notes in the Penrith area on 19th July.
A man, who is described as 5ft 10 tall, of large build, in his late 20’s/early 30’s with unkempt short brown hair, roughly shaven and wearing a full grey tracksuit entered a store at approximately 10.15am and tried to purchase items of very low value with the note, in order to obtain legitimate notes or coins in change.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Police would like to remind retailers in Cumbria to be extremely vigilant for these circumstances and ensure that notes are legitimate before carrying out a transaction.”
