Teenager arrested after making assault claim

[O]fficers investigating a report made last week of a 17-year-old having been sprayed in the face arrested the teenager on Saturday (21 July) on suspicion of wasting police time and obstruction of justice.

The incident was alleged to have taken place late in the evening on 12 July, by the A594 between Maryport and Dearham.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Following extensive enquiries and investigations, officers have arrested the teenager who made the report. Officers are not currently seeking anyone else in relation to this incident.

“The 17-year-old has been released under investigation.”
