[M]orecambe’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew launch in the dark after report of a man entering the water.
At 11pm on Tuesday 24 July 2018, HM Coastguard requested Morecambe’s RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew to search for a man, believed to be in low mood, who was reported to have been seen entering the water in the vicinity of the Morecambe Sailing Club slipway; opposite Morecambe Town Hall.
A Morecambe RNLI spokesman said: “The inshore lifeboat and inshore rescue hovercraft were quickly launched and they proceeded to conduct an extensive search of the immediate and surrounding areas for the man; supported by police officers and local coastguards, searching from the shore, and Coastguard helicopter Rescue 936 (based in Caernarfon) from the air.
“With the tide ebbing fast, they continued their search into the early hours, failing to locate the reported casualty, until it was called off by Coastguard Command at approximately 1.30am on Wednesday 25 July 2018. Both craft then returned to station.”
