[A] Carlisle man who stole 43-bars of chocolate from Poundland and two-bottles of Jack Daniels and razor blades valued at £97 from Asda on St Nicholas Gate has been banned from entering 63 retail premises in Carlisle.

John Lowe, 40, gave his address as Lightfoot Drive, Harraby, he pleaded guilty to both shop thefts, the first on July 18 stealing chocolate bars valued at £43, for that offence he got released on police bail with conditions not to enter certain stores and shops in the city, then on August 4 breaching his bail conditions by stealing from Asda.

Magistrates heard that Lowe has 112 previous criminal offences of theft and burglary over the years; he was just released from prison on July 12 from a previous custodial sentence.

The court heard how he is trying to get his life back together, but had no-money and stole the chocolate to sell on and get money to buy food.

Magistrates imposed conditions on Lowe, a criminal behaviour order that prohibits him from entering 63 retail premises in Carlisle, which includes Anne Summers, Marks and Spencer’s, McDonald’s, Tesco and Carlisle Library, he was handed down a house electronic tagged curfew between the hours of 6pm to 6am which will last for a period of four-months, he has to pay compensation to Poundland of £43 and court costs of £170.
