[A]t 3:12pm yesterday, Sunday 5 August firefighters from Wigton and Carlisle East attended reports of a large vehicle on fire on the B5302 in Wigton.
A Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Crews attended the scene and found a large vehicle which had caught fire and spread to nearby hedges and a field of eight acres of barley.
“A further two fire engines were requested from Carlisle West and Silloth and the fire was extinguished using eight beaters, two breathing apparatus and four hose reel jets.
“Two agricultural vehicles assisted by spreading water and slurry onto the field to dampen down.
“Fire crews were in attendance for approximately one hour and 30 minutes.”
