[C]arus Green Golf Club member and employee, Mike Turner, has won the Men’s Club Championship for an incredible third year running.
47-year-old Mike, from Milnthorpe, who has been a member at the club for more than four years, competed against more than 100 participants at the 36-hole scratch competition in very fine weather conditions. Playing off a handicap of just one, Mike shot rounds of 69 and 75, eventually winning by eight shots.
“The recent very hot weather meant that the greens were hard and fast,” explains Mike. “I played extremely well on the Saturday and was leading by five shots going into Sunday which gave me a bit of a cushion. Sunday’s play was scrappy in places, but I managed to bring it home in the end!”
It’s now ‘three years in a row’ for Mike, who holds the club championship title for both 2016 and 2017, but he attests there isn’t a secret formula to his success other than shooting lower scores than his competitors and ‘making it happen’!
In addition to holding his well-deserved title, Mike is also, of this year, a Carus Green employee, managing the new Golf Centre’s recently launched online business. He describes sales, particularly over the summer, as ‘brisk’.
Mike will be presented with his winner’s trophy at the club’s presentation evening on 12th October.
