[Y]oung person’s cancer charity, Josie’s Dragonfly Trust will be holding a two-day walking event to raise much needed funds to keep up with increasing demand for their services.
The charity, which recently relocated to Newcastle City Centre, continue to work closely with hospital teams to support young cancer patients who have been given the devastating news that they have no hope of a cure.
The planned walking route will follow one of the most iconic and memorable stretches of Hadrian’s Wall between Gilsland and Chollerford, with an overnight stop at The Sill in the Northumberland National Park – the UK’s first National Landscape Discovery Centre which opened last summer.
The charity have experienced a significant increase in the number of requests from families facing limited time together. The charity grant Cash Gifts and “Dragonfly Dreams” at very short notice to enable families and young couples make the most of the time they have and create precious memories together.
Fundraiser at Josie’s Dragonfly Trust, Sarah Hogg, said: “We wanted to offer an opportunity to support the work that we do, as well as the chance to experience the best bits of Hadrian’s Wall, without having to take on the full stretch. The event is open to individuals, teams, or families and we plan on offering a guide that will provide insights into the history of the wall at significant points en route.”
The event will be taking place over two days from 15th-16th September, with the option to take part in the full weekend challenge, or join for the final 12 miles on the Sunday. Those taking part in the weekend challenge will stay overnight at The Sill, with the popular Twice Brewed pub and Brew House just around the corner.
