[A] WEST Cumbria man caught drink-driving twice in nine days has been jailed.
Paul Anthony Walmsley, 35, first came to the attention of police on June 30, swerving across the A66 near Cockermouth. An open can of alcohol was found in the driver’s door when officers spoke to him.
On July 9, Walmsley was seen wheel-spinning and “reversing at speed” in Whitehaven. One witness spoke of him “driving like a maniac”, and he was again arrested.
Carlisle Crown Court heard that on both dates he was around three-and-a-half times the legal limit. He admitted two drink-driving charges, and dangerous driving, and was sentenced today (THURS).
The court heard his offending had been a “cry for help”.
Judge James Adkin jailed Walmsley, of Muncaster Close, Whitehaven, for eight months. Walmsley was banned from driving for three years, and must take an extended re-test.
