Carlisle man admits damaging police van

[M]agistrates in Carlisle have heard how a man punched and kicked a parked Ford Transit police van causing £1,132.22 damage.

George Henry Russell, 42, of Lund Crescent, Carlisle, pleaded guilty to criminal damage in the early hours of May 27, in Carlisle.

The court heard he told the police in his younger days he ended up in the back of a police van after a night out, so he thought he would save them the trouble by trying to get in the van himself.

Russell was placed on a Community Order with a house curfew for four-weeks between 7pm and 7am, he was electrically tagged, he also has to pay the police compensation of £1,132.22.
