[A] man has been charged following a road traffic collision on the A6 near Plumpton, Penrith on August 9, 2017.
Colin Hodgson, 30, of Englefield, Leam Lane, Gateshead, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court accused of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was allegedly driving a white Mercedes Sprinter van at the Plumpton Foot junction around.
A 74-year-old woman passenger in the other vehicle a VW Golf was airlifted from the accident scene to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the grey VW Golf, a 39-year-old woman was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, she suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Ann Miller died from her injuries a few days later, she was the front seat passenger in the VW Golf which was travelling north on the A6.
She was originally from Carlisle but lived in Penrith. The alleged driver of the van was uninjured, the road was closed in both directions for around four-hours following the two-vehicle collision.
Hodgson did not enter a plea to the allegation, he will next appear on September 19, at Carlisle Crown Court, he was granted unconditional bail.
