The result of the 6 September Cumbria County Council by-election for the Denton Holme division in Carlisle has been confirmed.
Karen Lockney (Labour)has been elected county councillor for Denton Holme after the following votes:
DAVISON, Helen: The Green Party – 94
DOUGLASS, Philip Francis: UK Independence Party – 46
LOCKNEY, Karen: Labour Party – 625
OSBORNE, Geoffrey Laurence: Conservative Party – 292
Turnout was 22%.
The by-election was held following the death of Labour councillor Hugh McDevitt.
The Denton Holme, Carlisle City Council by-election was held on Thursday 6 September.
Polling stations were open between 7am and 10pm. The By-Election count was held at the Civic Centre soon after the polls closed at 10pm.

The turnout was 22.3%
Following the by-election, the composition of the city council is as follows: 25 Labour Councillors, 22 Conservative Councillors, four Independent Councillors and one Liberal Democrat Councillor. Each Councillor serves one of 22 wards.
