Three talented students from St Benedict’s School were last week presented with their REACT Foundation Bursaries.
The awards are designed to encourage West Cumbrian students to think about a career in engineering, with REACT offering bursaries to students heading for university and sixth form.
There are a number of REACT Foundation Year 11 prizes of £200 available for West Cumbrian students. To be in with a chance of winning a bursary, the students needed to complete a short application form.
The St Benedict’s students applied for the A Level Award, which is for students considering entering sixth form and planning to study engineering related subjects, maths, sciences or product design at A Level.
The successful students, Kathleen Sullivan, Charlotte Nann and Alex McCumisky, took their GCSE exams this summer, and are now studying at St Benedict’s Sixth Form.
Mrs Kelso, Assistant Headteacher comments:
“I am delighted to see such hardworking and dedicated STEM students being rewarded for all their efforts.”
Miss Hunter, Maths teacher at St Benedict’s accompanied the students to the Awards Event and said:
“We are extremely proud that Charlotte, Kathleen and Alex have received bursary awards from The React Foundation and believe that this is an encouraging opportunity for the students to study engineering based subjects.”
“We are very grateful to React Foundation for nurturing the exciting and ambitious talent of the young people of West Cumbria.”
The students were successful with the bursaries following their impressive GCSE exam results, and subsequent acceptance into sixth form.
