A travel agent from Cumbria has been named the best high street agent in the British Isles.

Jamie Hetherington, a consultant at Cumbria Travel in Whitehaven, was crowned the UK & Ireland’s ‘High Street Agent of the Year’ at the annual awards of industry bible the Travel Trade Gazette.

More than 100 travel agents entered the agent categories for this year’s awards, completing written submissions that were then judged by a panel of industry leaders.

Judges said: “Strong sales and a dedication to providing excellent customer service made this agent stand out from the rest. Detailed examples of positive client feedback and a high percentage of repeat business particularly was impressive – particularly from an agent at such an early stage of his career.”

TTG group editor Pippa Jacks said: “Each year, we’re overwhelmed by the strength of entries from brilliant agents who go the extra mile for their customers, offering great value and sound advice, day in day out.

“TTG’s agent winners prove that travel retail in 2018 is a vibrant and successful business sector, and that agents continue to prove their worth by delivering phenomenal customer service to their customers. Huge congratulations to every agent that took home a trophy.”

The TTG Travel Awards took place at the Lyceum Theatre in London’s West End on September 17, co-hosted by comedian Alan Carr. The glittering awards ceremony, attended by 700 travel industry figures, also celebrated the industry’s top suppliers, including cruise line Celebrity Cruises, tour operators If Only and Intrepid, and Caribbean hotel company Sandals – which was crowned overall ‘Travel Company of the Year’ for 2018.
