A WORKINGTON man who punched his aunt’s partner, leaving him with a double jaw fracture, has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Gaij Murdoch, 20, lashed out and attacked Philip Crellin after a boozy session involving several people at Allison Murdoch’s town address.
Ms Murdoch was woken in the early hours of August 26 by Mr Crellin, who threw her phone. In response, her nephew punched her partner in the face.
“Mr Crellin described how he was bleeding heavily from inside of his mouth,” prosecutor Gerard Rogerson told Carlisle Crown Court.
Mr Crellin informed police, attended hospital and found he had suffered a double fracture to his jaw.
Murdoch admitted a grievous bodily harm charge, and was sentenced this afternoon (MON) by Judge James Adkin, who heard of the defendant’s personal difficulties.
After considering background information, Judge Adkin suspended a nine-month custodial term for 12 months and ordered Murdoch, previously of Vulcan’s Lane, Workington, to complete a three-month night-time curfew and rehabilitation.
“I am giving you this chance to try and sort out your life,” said the judge. “Please take that opportunity.”
