A WEST Cumbria danger driver who travelled at 110mph with his lights off before crashing has been warned he faces an “immediate” jail term.
David Raymond Beckinsale, 29, pleaded guilty to two crimes at Carlisle Crown Court earlier today (THURS).
Beckinsale admitted dangerous driving, in a Vauxhall Astra on the A66 at Stainburn, near Workington. He also admitted doing an act tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice by falsely reporting the vehicle had been stolen – when in fact he was driving.
Beckinsale was said to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder following his involvement in a previous “crush accident” on a work site. As a result, his lawyer, Karen Tunnacliffe, asked for the preparation of specialist background information ahead of sentence.
Judge James Adkin adjourned the case. Beckinsale, of Burrow Walls, Northside, Workington, was told he is due to receive his punishment at the crown court on November 1. In the meantime he was bailed and handed an interim driving ban.
But Judge Adkin told him: “Anyone who drives at 110mph with no lights on and crashes, and then lies to the police about the fact you were the driver, should expect an immediate custodial sentence.”
