A MAN who kicked and punched his partner during a sustained Carlisle attack has been locked up.
The city’s crown court heard how victim Charlotte Johnston was left “hysterical, terrified and crying” during a prolonged assault by Ryan Lee Metcalfe on the afternoon of July 10. This occurred outside their address at Margaret Creighton Gardens as stunned witnesses looked on and tried to intervene.
Metcalfe, 21, was said to have knocked Miss Johnston to the the floor several despite her pleading for him to stop. She briefly went unconscious, and was punched to the head and kicked to the body by Metcalfe who, the court heard, also tried to bite her nose.
When police arrived at the scene, Metcalfe – a young man said to have a lengthy criminal record and “long-standing mental health issues” – was absent. He later returned to the area, and was seen by an officer in possession of an iron bar.
He admitted affray and possession of an offensive weapon, and was jailed for 26 months by Recorder Ahmed Nadim.
Recorder Nadim told Metcalfe, now of Brooklands, Bishop Auckland: “You behaved in an extremely shameful and bullying manner.”
