A woman from the village of Lazonby, nr Penrith, has pleaded guilty to a drink-driving offence when she appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court.
The court was told Julie Wilson, 56, went to a petrol station in Penrith on the evening of September 18 and bought some Vodka.
Staff at the petrol station alerted police of their concern about her condition, officers later found her Nissan Micra parked on Salkeld Road, she was sitting on the ground with the car-door open.
She was given a road-side breath test which she failed and was arrested.
Wilson gave an evidential breathalyser reading of 93mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the limit 35mg, over twice the limit for driving.
The court heard how she had drank from a bottle of wine, before going home, that’s why she parked-up on the outskirts of Penrith.
Tariq Khawam for Wilson explained that she has gone through a period of ill health and suffers from anxiety and is off-work from a retail position through ill health, she had received a telephone message from her manager and she got herself into a “frenzy” she was a victim of a crime some-years ago and is still anxious about that.
The lawyer said Julie Wilson is ashamed to be in court and apologises for the offence.
On sentencing the presiding magistrate said this was a significant reading, you intentionally drank alcohol and drove,
She was disqualified for 23-months with a fine of £250 and court costs of £85 plus a victims surcharge of £35, she was offered the drunk-drivers rehabilitation course which could reduce her ban by 23-weeks.
