Stooshie have become a regular event at Threlkeld Village Hall –and no wonder – given their growing following and fantastic music! So a full house can be expected, but we hope there will still be a small space to dance!
The band members, Simon O’Hare, Dave Muir, Rachel Swift, Pete Leeson, are all local, and Stooshie is fast gaining a reputation in Cumbria and beyond. They’ve played at nearly all the major festivals in the area (including Kendal Calling, Solfest, Sedbergh and Keswick Mountain Festival), as well as venues such as The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, The Stage in Gateshead, Clitheroe’s The Grand as well as Keswick’s own Theatre by the Lake.
The group describe their music as rooted in folk but with a modern twist. Two main instrumental line-ups allow them to mix up traditional songs and beautiful ballads, to sit alongside the fast and furious stonkers that have the audience up on their feet.
The band play their own material as well as arrangements of other group’s numbers. Influences include The Peatbog Faeries, The Urban Folk Quartet as well as Altan and the wonderful Michael McGoldrick.
So, for a great evening of fiddles, voice, guitars, low and high whistles, bass guitar and percussion, get your ticket for the Stooshie event at Threlkeld Village Hall on 26th October. Tickets cost £8 (£4 for under 18s). Tickets from Threlkeld PO, Village Hall Coffee Shop, and on-line at www.threlkeldvillagehall.org/whats-on (by credit or debit cards or by Paypal). Tickets may also be available on the door but, if their last gig is anything to go by, early booking is advisable.
The bar and box office open at 7pm. There will be a support act of Swift and Rowan from 7:45pm with Stooshie taking to the stage just after 8pm. Box Office enquiries 07733 790308.
