Christmas 2018 sees the welcome return of one of the South Lakes’ festive calendar highlights; the two-day ‘Windermere Christmas Celebration’ – and as preparations get into full swing, calls are being made for volunteers to join the team to help make sure the event runs both smoothly and safely.
Organisers say they need more “elves” on the ground over the weekend of December 8 & 9, when 10,000 people are expected to visit row upon row of traditional market stalls which will line the streets, as the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas fill the air.
Live music will be performed across both days, with activities for children, festive food & craft stalls brimming with local produce – and even a visit from Father Christmas himself on the Saturday.
Kate Barton, one of the event’s organisers, says, “Since we started back in 2015, the Windermere Christmas Celebration has very quickly established itself as one of the South Lakes’ ‘must-see’ events on the festive events calendar for people right across Cumbria and beyond. It’s not just a benefit for the traders involved in the market themselves, but for businesses right across the town too; many of whom last year reported significantly higher footfall during the market weekend. There’s a great package of goodies for our brilliant volunteers and as it’s a community event, we want everyone to be part of our great team”.
This year, volunteers’ perks include free food all weekend, a free drink at the Lamplighter Dining rooms after a fun but chilly shift; a Windermere Lake Cruises family pass; a day-pass to the Low Wood Bay Health Club and a winter tour courtesy of Mountain Goat.
The Windermere Christmas Celebration takes place between 11am-7pm on Saturday December 8 and between 10am and 4pm on Sunday December 9. To join the team of volunteers, email [email protected]
