On Thursday 18th October the Suicide Safer Eden group is holding a public meeting at 7.00 pm at Penrith Rugby Club.
Anyone who lives or works in Eden with an interest in helping to reduce loss of life by suicide is welcome.
Suicide Safer Eden was set up over two years ago to prevent loss of life by suicide within our community, in the belief that suicide, mental health and wellbeing are everyone’s’ business.
On average, we lose one person a week to suicide within our county and the effect on their families, friends and neighbours is devastating.
The group is looking for local people to act as “Champions” by raising awareness about suicide prevention in their communities, workplaces, sports clubs and churches. At present, there are champions in Appleby, Greystoke and Kirkby Stephen, and the aim is to have a champion in every town and village in Eden.
At the meeting on 18th October, there will be sessions on reducing stress and improving mental wellbeing and discussions on how local people can help prevent suicide. There will be a market place where people can get useful information about the support that is available in Eden.
Whoever we are – neighbours, friends, parents, work colleagues, employers – we can all play a part in preventing loss of life to suicide, so everyone living in the Eden area is welcome to join us.
