Carlisle’s yoga community is raising funds for the Jigsaw Children’s Hospice with a special open day.
Free yoga sessions are being offered with people encouraged to donate to the hospice instead of paying for their session.
The day is being held in honour of brave Carlisle woman Jodie Vasquez, who has been a patient at the Hospice and suffers from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a rare condition that affects the collagen and connective tissues in her body, making her joints dislocate frequently and leaving her in chronic pain.
Jodie’s twin sister, Emma, is a teacher at the Yoga Studio in Carlisle and is being joined by her colleagues and owner Janet Richards to give their time for free on Sunday November 4th.
All the money raised will go to support Jodie’s Journey which is Jodie’s fundraising campaign for the hospice which has helped her. Despite her condition Jodie has raised over £30,000 for charities and has won national recognition for her efforts.
Emma said: “Obviously I have seen at close hand how the hospice has helped my sister and I hope we can raise a lot of money on the open day to help them continue their extraordinary work.
“Yoga seems an appropriate way to be raising money as it accessible way for all kinds of people whatever their level of fitness. Jodie is, of course, not able to do yoga but I have been able to use some of its techniques to help her.”
Yoga Studio owner said: “I hope a lot of people will join us on the day. Jodie is an inspiring woman who despite her condition has raised over £30,000 for charity.
“All we are asking for people to do is to come along and join in one of our sessions – it doesn’t matter what experience people have had of yoga, everyone is welcome – and donate what they can afford to to this important local charity.”
Trendy yoga and sportswear company Lululemon will also be having a pop up shop on the day which will run from 9.30 – 4.30pm. You can book into a session or just turn up to the Yoga Studio in Treasury Court, Carlisle, and join in.
