Man killed in A66 collision near Penrith

A man has died following a road traffic collision on the A66 eastbound carriageway just before Kemplay roundabout at Penrith.

Police were contacted at 2.59am today (30th October) following a collision between a HGV and a pedestrian.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The driver of the HGV, a man in his 30s, was uninjured.

“The A66 reopened shortly before 8am with the exception of one lane between Brougham and Kemplay which remains closed. It is expected that this lane will be reopened shortly.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to PC 2157 Hill, referencing incident 13 of 30th October 2018.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone with information on a pedestrian in the area between 2.30am and 3.15am or who had a dashcam running at that time.
