A MAN who attacked a woman in Carlisle has been spared immediate prison.
A judge at the city’s crown court heard how John Richard Lambert “slapped, pushed, shoved and grabbed” Tresa Irving, with whom he had been in a relationship which had been “characterised by alcohol”.
Ms Irving was said to have been injured during an incident which occurred at an address in Carlisle in March this year.
In court today (MON), 53-year-old Lambert was sentenced having admitted assaulting Ms Irving, causing her actual bodily harm.
Judge Peter Davies noted that Lambert, of Bridge Street, Haltwhistle, had 110 offences on his criminal record – including more than a dozen for violence.
After hearing mitigation, Judge Davies suspended an 18-month prison sentence for two years. He ordered Lambert to tackle a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and complete a “building better relationships” course.
A restraining order which prohibits the defendant making any contact with his former partner was also imposed, and will last for 10 years.
Lambert was told by Judge Davies that the violence he used was “never appropriate and never justified”.
