Man charged in Carlisle Christmas Eve rape investigation

Officers involved in a rape investigation in Carlisle have made a third arrest in connection with the incident.

The rape is alleged to have occurred on Christmas Eve 2017 in Carlisle city centre.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “Md Rana Miah was arrested following the incident but subsequently bailed whilst investigations continued.

“Miah, 38, of The Strand, Exmouth, Devon, was arrested this week in the Exmouth area.

“He has been charged with rape and appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today (7 Nov). He was remanded to appear before Carlisle Crown Court on 6 December 2018.

“The victim is aware of developments and continues to be supported by specialist officers from Carlisle CID.”
