Cumbria County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service has launched a new recruitment drive to find on-call firefighters to serve their community in Barrow.
More on-call firefighters are needed for a newly-created crew which will be based at Barrow Fire Station from Spring 2019.
The new on-call fire crew will provide additional emergency support to existing fire appliances serving the Furness Peninsular.
Barrow Fire Station is hosting an open evening on Wednesday 14 November, starting at 6pm, for anyone interested in becoming an on-call firefighter.
The open evening will provide an opportunity to talk to serving firefighters and find out more about the role.
Roger Exley, Station Manager for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, said:
“Cumbria has approximately 400 on-call firefighters who are fully trained, extremely professional and provide an excellent service for their local community. In Barrow, we are now recruiting on-call firefighters for a new part-time fire appliance. We have already recruited three people but more are needed to complete a full on-call crew.
“I would encourage anyone who is considering a career as an on-call firefighter to come to our open evening at Barrow Fire Station on Wednesday 14 November from 6pm. It’s a rewarding role but it can also be challenging. There is plenty of support and training to help those new to the service find their feet.”
The closing date for on-call applications is Friday 30 November.
