Film crews have been shooting a new crime drama at the art deco Grange Lido on the promenade.

The derelict site burst into life featuring in new crime drama ‘The Bay’. A large number of police vehicles and actors in police uniforms were seen around the lido and on the prom in the action.

The six-part series is an original drama written by award winning writer and playwright Daragh Carville (Being Human, The Smoke, Cherrybomb) and co-created by Richard Clark.

The series stars Morven Christie (The A Word, The Replacement) who plays Detective Sergeant Lisa Armstrong, a fierce and hard-working Family Liaison Officer. Joining Christie are; Jonas Armstrong (Troy, Ripper Street), Tracie Bennett (Scott & Bailey, Coronation Street), Lindsey Coulson (Funny Cow, Bullet Proof) and Chanel Cresswell (This is England ’90, Murdered For Being Different).

Chairman of Save Grange Lido, the group campaigning to save and restoring the pool, Phil Bradby said: “Its great that TV viewers from across the UK will be able to see the historic Lido and the lovely views across Morecambe Bay. Other operating Lidos across the country are very popular as film locations and we expect to bring in some extra revenue from filming once the pool is fully restored.”

Save Grange Lido are currently working with architects Studio Octopi to produce plans and full costings for the restoration of the pool and have launched crowd funding to pay for their work. Approximately 18,000 people have signed the paper and on-line petition to show their support for the project.

Plotlines for drama have been kept under wraps. ‘The Bay’ is expected to air on ITV in the new year.
