Walk-in access to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) department at the Cumberland Infirmary will change for the next 16 weeks while building improvements are made.
Access to the hospital’s A&E department will be via the hospital’s main entrance (through the revolving door) and past the coffee shop on the left hand side while work is undertaken to expand and improve the department including additional treatment rooms and an expanded waiting area.
A North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust spokesman said: “Extensive work has been taking place to the road around A&E and now work has started on the internal improvements which need to be made.
“The Trust would like to apologise to for any inconvenience this may cause but it will lead to an improved A&E department for the future.
“Clear signage will be displayed around the hospital to help people easily find their way to the department. Ambulance access is unaffected by the changes.”
