Penrith lollipop lady retires after 40 years

This morning, Orian Solutions visited longstanding employee Winnie Radcliffe to bid her a fond farewell as she completed her final morning patrol as lollipop lady on the corner of Fell Lane and Benson Row in Penrith.

Winnie has been working in her role for over 40 years, meeting hundreds of Penrith locals along the way. Winnie is leaving her role to dedicate time to moving into her new home but won’t be slowing down completely, as she will continue to work as a dinner lady at Beaconside Primary School.

Orian representatives who surprised Winnie with her thank-you gifts and cards are (from left to right) Simon Bowman (Health and Safety Manager), Linda Stewart (Area Coordinator) and June Garner (Account Manager).

All have worked closely with Winnie over the years and know her personally as locals to the area.

On leaving her post, Winnie remarked that it ‘has been a real pleasure’ as people stopped to beep, wave and thank her for her long service to the town.

June Garner commented on the lasting impression that Winnie has left in her post, saying: “Winnie will certainly be a huge miss to myself, the company and the community in her role.”
