Three-men have appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court today (Tues) charged with allegations of modern-day slavery offences
It was alleged that between September 1, 2016 and June 4, 2017 they conspired together with other persons that required employees to perform forced compulsory labour in Carlisle and Penrith.
Also that they conspired to arrange or facilitate travel to another person with a view to exploitation.
Appearing in court was Defrm Paci, 39 of Windmill Close, Sutton-in-Ashfeld, Nottinghamshire, and Jetmir Paci, 35 of Minimum Terrace, Chesterfield, both face the two accusations.
A third-man, Sitar Hamid Ali, 30, gave his address as Adelaide Street, in Carlisle, he also faces the two-allegations with the other men, Ali also faces a further charge of acquire/use/possess criminal property on May 10, 2017 in Carlisle, under the Proceeds of crime Act 2002, namely; he had cash to the value of £22,363.13.
Mr Ali told the Court he was British, the other two men named Paci are Albanian nationals.
The allegations relate to car wash sites two in Carlisle, Shiny Hand Car Wash on Warwick Road and Auto Clean Car Wash, King Street. Also one in Penrith on Cowper Road, the Shiny Wash.
The investigations into these sites were carried out by police officers from Cumbria and Home Office immigration officers.
No pleas were entered today. The three men will next appear at Carlisle Crown Court on January 7, 2019 they were granted conditional bail until then.
