A road improvement scheme at North Road, Barrow, will start a new phase from Monday 26 November when resurfacing work gets under way.
Cumbria County Council is delivering the improvement scheme, valued in the region of £500,000, which involves widening a 260m section of the southbound carriageway of North Road to allow continuous two-lane traffic. This will help improve traffic flow and reduce traffic congestion by tackling a key pinchpoint in the local road network
Resurfacing work on this section of North Road will be carried out at night-time only and is scheduled to be completed on Monday 10 December. To enable our contractor to safely carry out this work, manually operated stop-go boards may be required at certain times between 7pm to 6am. Wherever possible, we will try to avoid the need for these boards.
Traffic restrictions will be lifted during the daytime when the road will return to normal. Access will be maintained for pedestrians during this period.
Electricity North West have confirmed they are planning to carry out infrastructure upgrading work which will involve laying new underground power cables. These are likely to be on the opposite side of North Road from where our improvement works are currently taking place.
The county council is working with Electricity North West to keep disruption to a minimum while ENW’s works are carried out
As a result, resurfacing work on part of North Road will be postponed to enable Electricity North West to carry out excavation works. This will minimise disruption and avoid any duplication of work.
Once the ENW works are completed, the county council will then complete resurfacing works on North Road.
