Kendal Lib Dems push to make sure new development doesn’t lead to flooding

Councillors Jon Owen and Stephen Coleman at the site in Kendal

Local Liberal Democrat councillors Jon Owen and Stephen Coleman are working to make sure that a proposed new housing development in Kendal doesn’t cause flooding problems for local residents.

The site at the top of Moore Field Close, north of High Sparrowmire, is currently green fields, and there are concerns that increased run-off could flood homes down the hill.

Last week Jon held a meeting with concerned residents to hear their concerns about the development and to help them to have their say on the planning application.

Jon said: “Firstly we’ve made sure this application goes to the full planning committee so it can be properly scrutinised.

“We’re also talking to the council’s drainage officer to get him to come and assess the site properly. More affordable housing in Kendal is in high demand, but we need to make sure that developments are done properly and don’t cause further issues.”
