Crosscrake Guides have donated items to Kendal food bank for many years. This year, the 1st Crosscrake Guides and Rangers decided to go on an actual visit to see how the food bank works and what happens to the donated items.
Nine Guides, three Rangers and three leaders met food bank manager Linda to help pack parcels and discuss healthy meals. The girls were able to choose from Christmas items to make sure that each bag contained some festive cheer.
The Guides also brought toiletries and period items to help ensure that female food bank users’ basic needs are met. All food boxes are tailored to the needs of the individual or family and provide nutritional, non-perishable food items that provide three meals a day for three to four days.
As in many parts of the country, the King’s Food Bank in Kendal has seen an increasing call on its services.
All the Guides and Rangers enjoyed their visit, and 24-year-old leader in training Lucy Alcock commented “It was good to see how a food bank actually works in practice”.
