Police appeal after attempted rape in Carlisle

Police are appealing for information following the attempted rape of a woman in her 30s that occurred today (7th December) at about 4.50am in the area of Stanhope Road, Carlisle.

Officers are currently investigating and are appealing for any information.

The suspect is described as a white man, in his late 20s, tall, of muscular build, with tattoos and short hair. He is believed to smoke cigarettes. He was wearing a grey jumper, blue and green Superdry coat, dark blue jeans and a belt.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Belshaw said: “We would urgently like to speak to anyone with information who might have seen someone fitting the description in the area.

“We urge any witnesses to please contact us as your information could be vital to our investigation.

“Numerous enquiries by a team of detectives are ongoing at this time to ascertain the circumstances of today’s incident.”

Anyone with information or who witnessed a man fitting this description in the area at that time is asked to contact police quoting log 29 of the 7th December 2018.
