Prism Arts Studio Theatre is in the final stages of preparing their theatre production “Four Treasures” for their 2019 tour to Old Fire Station, Carlisle and Theatre by the Lake, Keswick.
Prism Arts Studio Theatre is based in Carlisle, it is an integrated company where adults with learning disabilities and professional artists work in partnership.
Their production “Four Treasures” is made up of four stories, The Princess and the Sun, Birdsong, Golden Ocean and The Lotus Flower. Each story centres on one of four themes; faith, trust, honesty and truth, exploring what makes them “treasures”.
Influenced by Indian culture and folk tales it is an entrancing performance which uses live acting, puppetry and live music.
They recently held a preview night at the Old Fire Station, Carlisle where attendees got to see The Princess and the Sun and were invited to meet the company and learn how the production was created.
Audience feedback included:
“I can’t wait to come and see the whole show in February”
“It had an important message and the actors managed to get it across excellently”
“loved the puppets – very impressed that everything was created in house”
Studio Theatre create their productions in their entirety. They work for a year beginning with research, creating the sets, puppets and costumes before they take it on tour.
The evening also saw the launch of a crowdfunding campaign which hopes to raise the last £1000 to take the production on its tour.
Money raised will enable professional musician Mark Newport to tour with the company. Mark has been working with the theatre group to develop the soundtrack to the productions and two of the company members will be performing live with Mark during the tour.
The crowdfunder is also helping to raise the money needed to run workshops with schools, working with them to develop their drama skills and teach them about shadow puppetry. There are 4 workshop slots available, two at Theatre by the Lake, two at Keswick schools. Please contact for more information. With the funding we will be able to offer the workshops free with a class booking for one of the performances.
