Police are investigating a serious road traffic collision that occurred at 9.50am on Tuesday 18th December on Bridge Lane, Penrith.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “An 88-year-old local woman was crossing the road from the hospital towards B&M Bargains when she was struck by a black Ford Focus being driven out of town.
“She was taken to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle having suffered a serious head injury. She remains in hospital in a serious condition.
“The 26-year-old local man driving the Ford Focus was uninjured.”
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to make contact with them on 101 quoting log 53 of 18th December 2018.
